The map is based on a survey of 2000 people who were asked detailed questions about their experiences of, and attitudes to, the current economic problems.

The map uses a specific question from the survey which asked how people were likely to approach Christmas and plots those saying they would be ‘trimming the fat’. It uses Output Area Classifications to allocate responses to get estimates of the proportion saying this in each Local Authority District across the country.
