Glimpses: Globalisation

Opening with a picture of Coca-Cola and McDonalds branding in Gui-Lin (China)*, the first section in Glimpses looks at the key issues shaping society’s views and experience of the so-called ‘global community’.

Each section describes the key trends driving the issue, our forecasts for ‘what’s next’ and the implications of the forecasts.

The globalisation section is a great guide to the key arguments surrounding American dominance, the role and future of the United Nations, emerging economies and inequality of income.  The chapter on the future of global migration also brings in issues of identity and the change from restricting to ‘managing’ migration.  Key chapters include:

  • After the downturn?
  • Will global poverty persist?
  • How will the world be governed?
  • Will emerging economies catch up with the west?
  • What will happen to global migration?
  • Will global communications connect us?
